Pakistan General Elections 2024:A Record of Controversies and Claims
The 2024 general elections in Pakistan have been concluded, making a significant moment in nations political history. The elections were conducted on 8th Feburary,2024 making a significant impact on the political history of the country.
Unrest Before Elections:
After prime minister Imran Khan was removed from office in 2022 through a no-confidence vote, Pkistan's political scene became chaotic. His arrest on corruption and 5 year ban from politics added to the disrupt. Supreme court ruling prevented the party from using it's election symbol as well.
Election Night Drama and Result:
On the election night, the TV reports hinted that PTI-supported independant candidates were leading in 127 seats possibly securing a majority. But then the final results came after a delay stating that PTI-supported independants won 103 seats, with PMLN following with 75 and PPP with 54. Tho PTI-supported independants led in KPK, PML-N and PPP were ahead in Punjab and Sindh. Despite winning the most seats PTI-supported independants fell short of majority.
Allegations of Rigging and Military Influence:
Soon after the elections, allegations of rigging strarted emerging. The fingers werepointed at military for favouring PML-N's Nawaz Sharif. International residents and other countries also stated concerns for fairness. Media throughout the world criticized the elections.
PTI's Allegations and Opposition Stand:
PTI's leader Gohar Ali Khan, along with Imran Khan accused widespread rigging. They stated that PTI won by 180 seats as per initial results. They refused to join hands with other parties and decided to be opposition in parliament.
Alliance Building and Government Formation:
On 13th Feburary,2024 PML-N and PPP leaders announced the formation of a union government, led by Shehbaz Sharif as prime minister. This union included several parties like MQM-P, PML-Q, IPP and BAP. Shehbaz Sharif was re-elected as the prime minister of Pakistan on 3rd March,2024 securing 201 votes against PTI.

The 2024 elections have been big deal, stirring up alot of controversies. From accusations of rigging to union of unexpected government. These elections will have a lasting impact on the political history of Pakistan.
